Does your Real Estate Marketing Plan include thank you notes? In an age of Facebook messenger, Instagram DM's and Text Messaging, handwritten thank you notes are a beautiful and easy way to stand out and show a client sincere gratitude and appreciation. A simple marketing touch, thank you notes should be an essential part of every Real Estate Agent's marketing plan.
Many times when I'm working with Agents they express to me one of their biggest hurdles is that they do not want to come across over eager for business or too pushy for referrals after a closing. For agents that struggle with this thought a well thought out handwritten card strategy can be a wonderful non-intrusive means to reaching out to prospects and previous clients. A simple look at your calendar over the past few days or weeks and makes this the easiest strategy to incorporate into your daily or weekly routine. Take a look at place you have been and make a note of the people you have recently met or closed a transaction with. I guarantee after you glance at your calendar, you will have a handful of cards to write from almost every event, meeting or outing you've attended.

1.) After a Listing or Buyer Presentation
This is one of the most powerful handwritten communications you can send. Regardless of if you just met the seller or buyer, if they are just an acquaintance or even a long-time friend, don't miss this prime opportunity to send a special handwritten thank you note to these folks.
The reason is timing is important! The client could be indecisive about who they want to hire as their Real Estate Agent and could be interviewing other Agents in the area. Making an effort to send a thank you for meeting is sure to make you stand out, if only one of you happens to make the time to send a handwritten note. Recommendation: Include Business Card
Thanks for the meeting yesterday. [You have a lovely home and ____ and ____ will really help with a sale] or [It sounds like you have a great handle on your home search criteria]. I'm looking forward to chatting with you more about this at your convenience.
2.) After Not Getting the Listing or Buyer
This is usually the hardest one to send because there are higher emotions involved and you could obviously be feeling a little down. If you want to turn that feeling around though, a quick thank you card is a game changer.
It's important to keep in mind that not every listing sells and if the Realtor selected fails to provide the services they were looking for, you could be next in line. Recommendation: Include Business Card

3.) Buyer/Seller Waives Conditions
This one is definitely one of those overlooked opportunities to send a simple and quick thank you to congratulate a client on their sale or purchase. At this time, the clients can be very excited and it's prime for them to refer you to friends and family. Recommendation: Do Not Include Business Card

4.) After Client Closes on Transaction, Lots of Interaction
Use this example to send to clients you connected with on a personal level. Or, when you kept great client notes about their interests! Recommendation: Do Not Include Business Card

5.) After Client Closes on Transaction, Little Interaction
This simple thank you can be used for out of town sellers, or clients who weren't into a lot of personal interaction.

Your ___________________ (organization, home improvements, willingness to negotiate) had a significant impact on how quickly we were able to sell your house. I wish all transactions were this smooth!

6.) To Accompany A Closing Gift
This short note can be used to give a hint about the closing gift. It also references something personal you may have learned about the client as you were working with them. Be careful not to tell them what's inside as it will take away from the surprise. Recommendation: Do Not Include Business Card
Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in selling your beautiful home. I appreciate and am honored with the trust you placed in me.
I really enjoyed learning more about ____________________ (interests, aspirations that tie to the gift). I hope that you/both can use this gift to enjoy ____________________ (a leisurely morning in your new dining room, movie night, gardening, relaxing) in your new home!
